Description:
This is a traditional home.
I met this client in 2018. We started in the dining room and formal sitting area with a refresh.
In 2020, I received a call from her, and she had lost her husband in the last couple of years after we had refreshed the dining room. Now it was her time to continue to refresh the home for her and her daughter.
Project Objectives and Challenges:
Refresh all paint colors to work with the beautiful, stained floors.
Reuse some of the current pieces by reupholstering or painting the furniture
Bring in new furnishings to compliment
Refresh accessories and wall decor while keeping some of the pieces she loved.
Update with a light and airy home to keep it from feeling fussy.
What I loved about this client is she is very open to change. She loves being able to rescue pieces. We have a great artist to be able to update pieces for us. She respected our thoughts, and we worked well together. That eliminated any kind of challenge in this project.
Design Solutions:
Take each room individually and decide what furniture or home furnishing were staying and what was needed to update the room Ex – dining room we changed the paint color, new artwork and wall decor, new accessories on console and floral on the dining table. We have two new upholstery head chairs. We reupholstried the side chairs. We also added a beautiful new chandelier. In the adjacent sitting room, we reupholstered the armchairs and round ottoman. We also added a new lamp to the accent table between the chairs.
Living room – we opted to keep the sectional and the great armchairs and settee. We updated the custom window treatments, the accent pillows on the sectional and armchairs. We also added a new area rug, new end tables and lamps, and a new leather ottoman. We loved the artwork on the fireplace that was already there.
Guest Bedroom – We painted all the walls for a refresh. We have all the new furniture in this room with a king-size bed and bedding, side table, chest, window treatments and wall decor. This became a pretty, chic bedroom.
Study – We made changes by painting the entire room and the bookcases. We have new Hunter Douglas Solera shades that are motorized. We also have a new upholstered armchair by the window. We also have a new area rug and wall decor. We kept the desk and painted it a deep charcoal with silver metallic highlights on the fine details (Our faux painter painted the desk). This study is now officially her office.
Powder room – sometimes it takes just painting a room to truly make the difference. We had our artist paint the walls in a metallic and with floral tone on tone design. It is truly specular. We used cream and champagne paint on the vanity. Adding a new mirror, lighting and accessories made this room come alive.
