Awesome Aquarium Living Room Designs
Designing a Family Room With a 150-Gallon Saltwater Aquarium
“Color balance is much like balancing a relationship. The only difference is one must replace a therapist with a designer.”
Welcome to D’KOR Home, where Texas design meets therapy. This project combined marriage advice and aquarium room design ideas into one story.
Meet Shabab and Baber of Collin County, Texas. He’s a doctor focused on pain management, and she loves color. Their family room needed to reflect both personalities.
The challenge: combine bold color with a peaceful aquarium vibe. The solution? Design therapy from D’KORators.
1. Create a Proper Focal Point
We removed the fireplace projection and installed stacked local natural stone for a bold Texas look that balances the aquarium.
2. Feature the Aquarium
Instead of hiding the 150-gallon saltwater aquarium, we embraced it as live art, pairing it with gold and gunmetal sculpture for balance.
3. Choose Scaled Furniture
We filled the space with right-sized pieces including a silver leaf cocktail table and clover ottomans for both style and function.
4. Balance Color
Teal and blue accessories brought her favorite colors in and complemented the aquarium’s tones.
5. Maximize Windows
Window treatments were used to add height and create division between spaces, refocusing attention away from the window frames.
6. Highlight Architecture
The coffered ceiling was painted a warm golden honey tone, echoing the stone fireplace and tying everything together.
7. Advice: Design Over Divorce
When in doubt, list your and your partner’s needs. Designers cost less than attorneys and prevent costly mistakes.
